Kenyan sprinter and Tujiamini Gold awardee Tyson Juma has touched down in Marseille, France, thanks to SportPesa’s Tujiamini initiative. Over the next three months, Juma will work closely with his French coach to hone his skills in the 60m indoor season, focusing on speed development crucial for the outdoor track season. This journey marks a major step forward in Tyson’s career, giving him access to top-tier training and resources as he pursues his dream of becoming a world-class sprinter.

Tyson’s arrival in France highlights the ongoing impact of the Tujiamini by SportPesa initiative, which supports promising talent from Kenya’s grassroots sports scene. With a personal best of 10.36 seconds in the 100m, Juma has already made waves in Kenya’s sprinting circles, positioning himself among the country’s top five sprinters. Now, as a Gold winner, he has the opportunity to elevate his training and compete at an international level.

From Western Kenya to the World Stage

Originally a rugby player from Masinde Muliro University, Tyson transitioned to sprinting, where he quickly excelled. In August, he was named the Tujiamini Gold winner for Western Kenya, earning him the KSh500,000award to support his athletic career. Tyson has preformed well in the 60m race prior to the award with a PB of 6.85 seconds.

Tyson’s recent successes are a testament to his resilience and passion for sprinting, especially after narrowly missing out on the Paris Olympic trials. Instead of seeing the setback as a defeat, he embraced it as fuel to work harder, aiming to break the coveted 10-second barrier in the 100m—a goal only a handful of Kenyan sprinters have achieved. Inspired by the ground breaking achievements of Ferdinand Omanyala, Tyson dreams of putting Kenya on the global sprinting map.

Tujiamini by SportPesa: Empowering Kenya’s Rising Stars

SportPesa’s Tujiamini initiative empowers young athletes like Tyson by providing them with resources to succeed. The program, which focuses on sports, sponsorship, and grassroots talent development, bridges the gap for athletes from underserved regions. For Tyson, Tujiamini’s support goes beyond financial assistance—it opens doors to international training, essential equipment, and exposure, setting the stage for him to compete with some of the world’s best.

Through this initiative, Tyson will have access to high-level coaching, physiotherapy, and specialized training facilities, all vital components for athletes aspiring to reach elite levels. The indoor 60m season will serve as a critical building block for Tyson’s speed, forming a foundation for the outdoor competitions that will follow.

Tyson Juma’s arrival in Marseille isn’t just a stepping stone in his career; it’s a monumental leap for Kenyan athletics. Supported by Tujiamini, Tyson is committed to working hard and breaking barriers for Kenya.
