The Kirinyaga Knights’ hockey club win the Tujiamini Silver award

•  The hockey club secured the 5th and final silver award for Central region.

•  The last silver award for Central was put to vote on the Tujiamini social media handles, with Kirinyaga Knights        beating out journalist Joseph Kuria Gichimu and para-athlete Joseph Kamanja Nyambura.

•  The Kirinyaga Knights’ hockey club beat two other promising contenders to claim the Tujiamini Silver award for    Central region.

 

The Kirinyaga Knights hockey club was on hand to watch their fellow Kirinyaga side the Kirinyaga Stars Football Club win the Central Cheza Dimba tournament held at ACK Good Samaritan, Mutithi. They were unaware of their own success in the Tujiamini Initiative.

Kirinyaga County dominated Central regions winners not only having local applicants winning the Cheza Dimba, Gold and Silver awards, but also having several individuals winning the 10,000KSh Bronze award.

The Silver award sees winning applicants walk away with 100,000KSh worth products or services to put towards their dreams and talents. Each month Tujiamini is rewarding 5 Silver awards. The initiative powered by SportPesa is rewarding 3 million Kenya shillings worth of prizes each and every month.

The Kirinyaga Knights from Kutus will put the financing towards paying their upcoming match fees as well as purchasing bibs, cones, hockey balls and additional training equipment.

The Kirinyaga Knights join, Kennedy Stephen Mwangi (Kenya strongman), Patrick Mugo (Cyclist), Franklin Ireri (Musician) and Nyang Leeon (Mental health advocate) as the Silver winners from Central.

The club hopes the new equipment will help grow the sport through Kirinyaga and the extended Central region. Founded in 2019 with the mission to nurture local talent and elevate the status of hockey in the region, the club embarked on a journey fueled with passion and dedication to the sport.

Additionally, the club aims to provide opportunities for talented players to pursue their education abroad, leveraging the sport as a pathway to academic success. Under the management of DBA Africa, the Tujiamini initiative identifies and celebrates exceptional athletes while encouraging the growth of sports and entertainment in the region. The success of the Kirinyaga Knights exemplifies the collective efforts of DBA Africa and SportPesa in nurturing talent and advancing sports development.

With 26 ladies and 40 men actively contributing to the club's success, they form a formidable force on the field. Many of these players are also pursuing higher education, with 37 of them enrolled in various universities across the central region.

The men's side competes in the national league men Eastern zone under the Kenya Hockey Union. finishing a commendable 7th out of 14 teams in the 2023/2024 season.
