• Central Kenya’s Silver Award Winner, Starts Well in the 2024 Kenya Cycling Race Series.
• Patrick was awarded a Trek Stache Carbon MTB as part of his recognition as Tujiamini Silver Award Winner.
Since receiving the Tujiamini Silver Award from SportPesa, professional cyclist Patrick Mugo has been on a mission to prove that the recognition was well deserved.
The Silver Award which gifted him a Trek Stache Carbon mountain bike frame, while still in the process of being fully assembled, has already given Mugo the motivation to see him in peak form at the recent Kenya Cycling Race Series.
With regular top-10 positions in last years races at Kibiku near Ngong and Watamu in Malindi, showcasing his versatility across different terrains, Patrick was aiming to start this year with podium finishes.
It started at the Safari Epic 2024, a grueling four-day race in Nanyuki, where Mugo was able to turn his dream into reality. Despite a challenging start with a crash in Stage 1, Mugo's resilience and skill saw him clinch victory in Stages 2 and 4, ultimately crowning him the overall winner of this inaugural event. This triumph is a testament to Mugo's growing prowess and the impact of the support he's received.
Not content to rest on his laurels, Mugo continued finish well in the next two stages. In a recent road race at Engineer, North Kinangop, he secured a commendable third-place finish, demonstrating his adaptability across cycling disciplines. He followed this with another bronze medal performance at the Njoroge Memorial Aberdare Classic Race, where he tackled a mostly flat course punctuated by a demanding long descent and big climb.
"The new bike frame has been a real boost to my performance," Mugo shared. "Even though it's not fully assembled yet, I can feel the difference it's making. Once it's complete with pro-level components, I know I'll have even better chances in off-road races."
Mugo's journey since receiving the award highlights not just his skill as a cyclist, but also his determination and resourcefulness. Despite the challenges of acquiring expensive components for his new bike frame, he's been steadily working towards fully equipping it, buying parts one by one.
As Mugo prepares for his next challenge at the Sasini coffee mills in Kiambu on June 30th, the team at Tujiamini are hoping to see him continue to build on his talents. His recent string of successes has boosted his chances of achieving his dream of conquering the Kenya Cycling Race Series (KCRS) in 2024.
The Tujiamini initiative by SportPesa is aiming to not only provide equipment but be a springboard to elevate Patricks career to new heights. As he continues to race and record good results, Mugo is not just chasing personal glory but is also paving the way for the next generation of Kenyan cyclists, especially aspiring female athletes in this male-dominated sport.
