Amos Kimutai, known as the "King of Selfies" in Iten, Kenya, has transformed his passion for running into a multifaceted career supporting athletes. After moving to Iten in 2019, Amos recognized the need to connect promising young runners with sponsors and equipment.
The Tujiamini Silver Award winner, joins several talented individuals from North Rift region who have been recognized for their talents, not only on the track, but their commitment to supporting the running community in Iten. Amos' acknowledgement as Tujiamini Silver award winner will go along way to helping him achieve his goal of supporting the next generation of world champion long distance runners.
With a personal best time of 1:06 in the half marathon and 2:19 in the marathon at high altitude, Amos now focuses on coaching and managing athletes. His initiative, "RUN With Amos," encourages international athletes to train in Iten, fostering cultural exchange and supporting the local community.
Amos' dream is to see athletes access essential training tools like gyms and recovery areas. He believes these resources will help runners maximize their talents and improve their lives through athletics.
"Athletics is in me," Amos says. "I'm always happy seeing others succeeding in their running career." Though he didn't become a top athlete himself, Amos finds fulfillment in mentoring and nurturing young talent, embodying the spirit of "Tujiamini" - believing in oneself and others.
The Tujiamini Initiative by online gaming firm SportPesa, has been awarding talented individuals and teams regionally through-out 2024. The month of June saw several athletes from North Rift recognized for their talents on the track.
