Football fans in Western Kenya have even more reason to celebrate as the popular Cheza Dimba tournament, powered by SportPesa, introduces women's teams to its roster for the first time. The upcoming event, set to take place at Mumias Complex stadium on Friday, August 2nd, 2024, will feature two women's sides battling for a prize of 50,000 KSh, alongside the established men's competition.

The inclusion of women's teams marks a significant milestone for the tournament, which has already made waves across Central, Eastern, and North Rift regions. The two pioneering women's teams are:

1. Greenblades SPASS Ladies FC

2. Tsunami Youth FC

Greenblades FC, composed primarily of high school students and young women, has shown remarkable progress, fighting their way up from the county league to earn a spot in this regional tournament. Their journey exemplifies the spirit of determination and growth that Cheza Dimba aims to foster.

While the women's teams compete for their share of glory, six men's teams from across the Western Region will vie for the coveted three-year Tujiamini Sports Sponsorship package worth 250,000 KSh per year. The participating men's teams represent a diverse cross-section of talent from various counties and league levels:

1. Gunners FC (Vihiga County)

2. City Harvest FC (Bungoma County)

3. Museno Sambakhulu FC (Kakamega County)

4. Mavusi FC (Kakamega County)

5. Khwirale United FC (Busia County)

6. Seregeya FC (Kakamega County)

This expanded format underscores Cheza Dimba's commitment to nurturing young talent across genders and providing a platform for upcoming football stars to showcase their skills. The tournament continues to attract teams from different levels of competition, making it an exciting spectacle for players, parents, and fans alike.

Tournament director Pius Shiundu expressed enthusiasm about the expansion: "We're thrilled to bring Cheza Dimba to the Western Region and especially excited to include women's teams this year. This move demonstrates our commitment to developing talent across all levels of football in the region, regardless of gender."

The Tujiamini sponsorship has been a game-changer for previous Cheza Dimba winners, providing much-needed financial support and resources to nurture their talents. This year's winners will have the opportunity to take their football careers to new heights with the comprehensive support package.

As interest in the tournament continues to grow, organizers are expecting high participation and an electrifying atmosphere at the Mumias Complex stadium. Fans can look forward to an action-packed day of football, showcasing the best young talent from Kakamega, Bungoma, Busia, and Vihiga counties, with the added excitement of women's football making its Cheza Dimba debut.
