• Vincent Onyangi follows up his individual Bronze Award to claim the Silver Award for his lacrosse team.
• The Daystar University student is also the founder, player and coach of the university team.
Vincent Onyangi stood tall, smiling on stage during the Tujiamini launch in February. He was fortunate to be announced as one of the first Tujiamini Bronze Award recipients, receiving KSh10,000 on that night.
Fast forward 3 months and Vincent is again receiving a Tujiamini Award, this time on behalf of his Daystar University Lacrosse team-mates. The prize is set to enable him and his team-mates the opportunity to explore and push their talents on the lacrosse field even further. The recognition will provide funds for training equipment, goals and new kit to help elevate his team's skills and enable additional interested students to try out a new sport.
Tujiamini by SportPesa is a ground-breaking initiative rewarding talented individuals across all sports and talents and Vincent exemplifies these traits with his ambitious and big dreams for lacrosse at Daystar University. The Bronze Award was just the first step on his journey to putting Kenya lacrosse on the map.
The Tujiamini Silver award sees 5 applicants receiving goods or services valued up to KSh100,000 every month. The SportPesa Kenya funded initiative has given over KSh3,000,000 in goods and services since its Launch in February.
When applications opened for the prestigious Tujiamini Gold and Silver Awards in his region, like many previous Bronze winners, Vincent knew he had to go for it. He poured his heart into the application, detailing his vision for lacrosse in Kenya and his team's impressive results over the year. Ultimately the application won over the selection committee, with Vincent's passion, determination and commitment to the sport seeing him announced as the lucky few from Eastern- Northeastern region.
And so there he stood, the first ever talent to claim both the Tujiamini Bronze and Silver Awards. As he looked out over his beaming teammates, decked out in their smart new uniforms funded by the Silver prize, Vincent felt immense pride. But he knew this was just the beginning.
Vincent aims to take the Daystar lacrosse program to even greater heights through expanded training, facilities and exposing his players to international competition.
